Our Wellness is Limitless. Stillness of the mind can be found in the enjoyment of many things. The act of Meditation is often tied with the notion of simply sitting still and quieting the mind. It is this, and it can also take many forms depending on what works for the individual.  In my view, meditation is whatever brings you into the present moment and lets the world around you fade away. For me, it can be knitting, painting and even making jewellery. I became so passionate about this creative outlet that I recently turned this means of meditation into an Etsy store where I sell my creations Fairy Jane Design

FAQ

What is Life Coaching ?

Coaching is a relatively new profession. Simply put, Counseling focuses on overcoming issues from the past while Coaching focuses on moving from the present forward. The Coaches Training Institute defines Coaching as “a powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance the lifelong process of human learning, effectiveness and fulfillment” As a Life Coach, I strive to help my clients discover their natural gifts and talents, as well as:

  • Set better goals and reach them.
  • Asking them to do more than they would have done on their own.
  • Using specific tools and techniques to help focus and motivate
  • Providing the necessary support and accountability to overcome the road blocksto their success

How do Life Coaching sessions differ from Counseling?

Life coaching is an active and collaborative relationship involving such things as brainstorming sessions, precise goal setting and being challenged to push yourself that little bit further. Because of the nature of Life Coaching I often work with my client to devise a plan of action that best works for them. This can mean a set number of one on one sessions per month with intermittent follow up calls to check in on the progress and provide the necessary motivational support.

How do I know if I need Counseling or Life Coaching?

A lot of people don’t know, whereas for some people it feels obvious to them. What can often happen is that people are feeling stuck in their lives and decide to see a Life Coach. They can then find that the Life Coaching just isn’t working. There is something holding them back from making a breakthrough. This is unfortunate because they may not even realize that there is still help available for whatever challenge they are facing. Oftentimes a client needs to let go of what they are carrying from the past through the support of Counseling before they are ready to take on bigger challenges in the present. Each person is different and this is why I make free consultations available so we can both get a better idea of what will work for you.

What can I expect from a Counsellor?

Your counsellor ought to:

  • treat you with integrity.
  • be honest and forthright with you.
  • have taken their own personal healing work seriously and have addressed it in some in meaningful and significant way.
  • respect your opinions and beliefs even if they differ from their own.
  • be non-judgemental in every aspect.
  • act ethically and morally.
  • make you aware of your rights and responsibilities at the beginning of therapy.

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a skilled process which enables clients to explore problematic areas, difficulties and concerns. Counseling gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings about what is troubling you with a qualified professional. You will gain a clearer understanding of what is happening to you, and will be assisted in identifying the choices available to you. You will learn skills that will help you to take responsibility for your own life, choices and decisions. This will lead to a happier and more confident lifestyle. Counseling essentially aims to help clients to work towards more satisfying and resourceful lives, by taking control of their own lives and decisions. The client chooses what they want to work on, and is empowered to make their own decisions and choices. Certain conditions are necessary for this process. A ‘growth promoting climate’ requires the counselor to be congruent, have unconditional positive regard for the person as well as show empathic understanding. Congruence on the part of the counselor refers to her / his ability to be completely genuine whatever the self of the moment. Counseling is a non-judgmental environment, where clients are respected for who they are, whatever their ethnicity, beliefs, lifestyle, or sexual orientation.

Can young people contact a Counsellor?

In the province of British Columbia children and youth have the right to consent to their own Counseling.

What does successful Counseling feel like?

Successful Counseling feels like something has changed – something is different. You feel more hope and self-confidence. You are trying out new behaviours and they are working. People may react differently to you, and they may comment that something about you has changed. You will also likely notice that you are having different results in your interactions with people around you. In the end, you are the one who makes the decision about whether therapy has been successful. My goal is to help my clients to become better agents of change in their own lives.

How can Counseling help me?

Counseling and/or therapy can help alleviate emotional pain and suffering. It can help you develop new skills to deal with the problems at hand. It can help increase your self-esteem. It can give you hope that there is a better way, or a way out. The only

thing that it can’t do is change you. You have to do that by yourself. You have to take the skills or new ideas and put them into practice in your life. Counseling will not help you unless you take what you have learned and put it into practice in the world.

How many sessions are needed?

Counseling is very much centered upon the client, who decides for themselves when they are ready to stop the Counseling process. It depends a lot on the client’s goals and the level of functioning that they desire to reach. My door is always open, and clients can choose to take a break, seek Counseling elsewhere, or return to Counseling at any time. It really is your choice – you will know when you are ready to go it alone!

Sailing to Byzantium – W.B. Yeats
THAT is no country for old men. The young
In one another’s arms, birds in the trees
– Those dying generations – at their song,
The salmon-falls, the mackerel-crowded seas,
Fish, flesh, or fowl, commend all summer long
Whatever is begotten, born, and dies.
Caught in that sensual music all neglect
Monuments of unageing intellect.An aged man is but a paltry thing,
A tattered coat upon a stick, unless
Soul clap its hands and sing, and louder sing
For every tatter in its mortal dress,
Nor is there singing school but studying
Monuments of its own magnificence;
And therefore I have sailed the seas and come
To the holy city of Byzantium.O sages standing in God’s holy fire
As in the gold mosaic of a wall,
Come from the holy fire, perne in a gyre,
And be the singing-masters of my soul.
Consume my heart away; sick with desire
And fastened to a dying animal
It knows not what it is; and gather me
Into the artifice of eternity.
Once out of nature I shall never take
My bodily form from any natural thing,
But such a form as Grecian goldsmiths make
Of hammered gold and gold enamelling
To keep a drowsy Emperor awake;
Or set upon a golden bough to sing
To lords and ladies of Byzantium
Of what is past, or passing, or to come.

Lake Isle of Innisfree – W.B. Yeats
I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.
I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

Filling Station – Elizabeth Bishop

Oh, but it is dirty!
this little filling station,
oil-soaked, oil-permeated
to a disturbing, over-all
black translucency.
Be careful with that match!

Father wears a dirty,
oil-soaked monkey suit
that cuts him under the arms,
and several quick and saucy
and greasy sons assist him
(it’s a family filling station),
all quite thoroughly dirty.

Do they live in the station?
It has a cement porch
behind the pumps, and on it
a set of crushed and grease-
impregnated wickerwork;
on the wicker sofa
a dirty dog, quite comfy.

Some comic books provide
the only note of color–
of certain color. They lie
upon a big dim doily
draping a taboret
(part of the set), beside
a big hirsute begonia.

Why the extraneous plant?
Why the taboret?
Why, oh why, the doily?
(Embroidered in daisy stitch
with marguerites, I think,
and heavy with gray crochet.)

Somebody embroidered the doily.
Somebody waters the plant,
or oils it, maybe. Somebody
arranges the rows of cans
so that they softly say:
ESSO–SO–SO–SO

to high-strung automobiles.
Somebody loves us all.
